One slow night at the Long Weekend I was ruminating on the Boston scene for the assembled geniuses & maniacs, & by way of instruction started playing "Mass Ave" by Willie Loco Alexander. I can never remember lyrics, my own included, & as things will go on a slow night I began adjusting the lyrics for the terrain outside the window of O'Toole's [no longer extant], thru which we even saw the Boss pass one nite coming from Convention Hall rehearsal. The song stuck to the wall even though I forget the lyrics & Pat Veil somehow knows ALL the versions concocted over the past 5 years. When I apologized to Willie for cribbing the tune outright he said very graciously 'it's OK I stole it from the Beach Boys'. Noblesse oblige from the King!
